Step 29.
RSS allows blog readers to subscribe to your blog so that they receive an update when you've added a new post. This is done through a blog reader.

I use NetNewsWire for mac. If you have a Google Account you can use the reader that you'll find on your account home page to subscribe to the blogs you like most. It's a program that basically organizes all of the RSS feeds you subscribe to. If you're on PC you can use Feedreader and download it to your computer. Then you can start subscribing to your favorite blogs, news media outlets and podcasts.

So have you ever noticed the little RSS icon in the the little browser text field where you enter urls when you surf the internet? It's the RSS subscription link. At the end of the browser window (where you put the site url) there is usually a small blue or orange icon. If you click on it you can "subscribe" to the blog and receive notifications when a new post has been added so that you don't have to check back each day.

Usually the icon either looks like this one or the blue one above. When you see it and click on it it allows you to subscribe to the blog or website you are viewing so that each time new content is added you will receive an alert to let you know. Otherwise you have to click over all of the time to see if there's anything new. |
